Collection: GABA Green Tea

GABA green tea is a slightly fermented green tea that contains more GABA (Gamma Amino Butyric Acid) than regular tea, about 150ml or more GABA in 100g of tea. All green tea naturally contains a relatively small amount of GABA (about 30ml in 100g of tea). However, in 1987, the Japanese Tea Research Institute succeeded in increasing the GABA level in tea using a special manufacturing process. Since then, studies of the relaxing effect and a suppression effect on blood pressure of this tea were conducted. The positive results made it popular as a healthy tea.

What is GABA?

GABA naturally resides in the human body's central nervous system, such as the brain and spinal cord, and acts as an inhibitory neurotransmitter that suppresses excitement. It is a type of amino acid that maintains blood pressure and sympathetic nerves in a normal state, suppresses and lowers blood pressure spikes, relieves tension and stress, and relaxes and calms brain excitement, thus improving the quality of sleep.

History of GABA tea

About 40 years ago, in an effort to improve tea farming techniques, the Tea Industry Research Institute was examining whether it would be possible to preserve fresh leaves for a long period of time while still maintaining its fresh flavor. After numerous experiments, they found that the GABA in the tea was significantly increased when raw tea leaves were stored in a container with a concentration of nitrogen gas, which is also used to preserve fruits such as apples.

Why GABA tea?

GABA is naturally a part of grains, vegetables and fruits, and it is not an additive. Many of us ingest GABA on a daily basis without even realizing it. In recent years, supplements and functional foods containing GABA have become available, however GABA tea is recommended for those who want to naturally incorporate GABA into their diets, and for those who have problems with high blood pressure, body fat, and stress. Additionally, our GABA tea offers not only GABA, but all of tea’s natural health benefits.
